The second-generation Tesla Roadster is revealed, again, now in a completely different form to the car previewed in 2017, ahead of its new proposed production date of 2028 – given CEO Elon Musk once said this car would hit the road eight years earlier, we’ll believe it when we see it.
Musk did say this was ‘…not a safety optimised car’ [a Cyber Truck inspiration]
Sold as one of three variants, the Roadster ‘Rocket’ has a single seat, is not approved for road use and can’t even be readily purchased like the other variants in the lineup. To get one, you’ll need to be selected specifically by Tesla, as it’s invite-only – for those that get lucky, a sub-0.59 sec 0-60 mph time and top speed in excess of 230 mph are what Tesla says you’ll unlock – Musk did add that he wants to target ‘halfway to the speed of sound,’
At the other end of the scale is the ‘entry-level’ Roadster Performance, which is ‘road-ready’, has two seats, active aerodynamics and is capable of a still-ludicrous <1.6 sec 0-60 mph time, according to Tesla. No top speed has been disclosed.
The third and final variant is the limited-run Roadster ‘Thrust’, giving you two seats, the same features as the Performance model and a dedicated cold gas thruster for acceleration only – the result is a sub-1 sec 0-62mph time when at the drag strip.
Tesla focused solely on the gas thruster and suction system of the Roadster in this initial event... [meaning, forget it. By 2028 hopefully, it will have been scrapped for another concept]
This is very clearly not anything like the Roadster shown back in 2017, with its design completely thrown out...
